| BMC 3172 - Funeral Directing and Professional Relationships 2 hours credit The student studies the wide variety of groups in connection with actual funeral service procedures. The mechanics and the dynamics of the conduct of the funeral process from the first notification through committal are presented with emphasis on the funeral service, religious service, committal service and finally fraternal and military funeral services. The cultural universals and the symbolism of funerals as a method of cultural communication are also discussed. The American funeral and how changes in the family structure have altered the funeral in this century are covered. Understanding and respect for the tenants of all groups and proficiency to meet their needs are developed. |
| BMC 4223 - Funeral Home Administration 3 hours credit This course is designed to teach effective management skills. Instruction includes recognizing and solving funeral service management problems and establishing and implementing policies after decision analysis. The Federal Trade Commission's regulations governing the funeral service profession and the death benefits available to eligible people are studied. The course is also designed to develop product knowledge which includes casket interior design, and manufacture and construction methods of caskets, vaults, monuments, and urns. |
