| LAR 1003 - English Composition 3 hours credit A study of language with concentration on the skills of effective writing. Practical, individual assistance in planning, writing and revising is based on critiquing assignments. |
| LAR 1083 - Essentials of Mathematics 3 hours credit This course seeks to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of consumer mathematics by developing their arithmetic, algebra, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Topics will be carefully selected to build on each individual's strength to motivate the weaker students and to challenge the stronger students. Problems posed around individual student's strength will be central to the course. Calculators and newspaper articles will be used. |
| LAR 2143 - Effective Business Communications 3 hours credit The purpose of this course is threefold: to acquaint the student with the appropriate fundamentals of oral presentations; to provide the principles of and practice in effective written business communication; and to present the tools for a sucessful job search. |
LAR 2044 - Anatomy 4 hours credit An introduction to human anatomy beginning with the overall organization of the human body and progressing with the integumentary system, osteology, arthrology, the digestive system, excretory system, male and female reproductive systems, the respsiratory system, the circulatory system, adenology, the nervous system, the muscular system, and ending with developmental anatomy. Special emphasis is given to those structures that are important to practical embalming. |
| LAR 4203 - Microbiology/Health 3 hours credit An introduction to the structure and function of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. Also stressed are virulence factors of each group. Factors promoting and inhibiting growth are emphasized. After a discussion of the human immune system and general principles of epidemiology, the specific pathogens of interest to the funeral director are covered in detail. |
