Much has changed in our world since 1900 when Simmons Institute was founded. Educational requirements have moved from a "trade school" approach to obtaining a minimum of a two-year degree through an accredited college program. Having the opportunity to establish a solid foundation for further education while learning the arts and skills required to becoming technically competent as a funeral director is what Simmons is all about. Providing a program of study flexible enough to recognize past individual academic accomplishments has become accepted by Simmons as one of its greatest challenges. |
| At Simmons, funeral service education is our only business. Simmons Institute is one of the few accredited programs in the nation that maintains and operates an excellent on-site clinical program in which to have the opportunity to obtain invaluable practical experience. Personnel are available to teach embalming and restorative art techniques around the clock, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Simmons Institute was the first to develop the Weekend Study program in 1990. Many students have been able to complete their education requirements by taking their course work on weekends in combination with transferring credits from other colleges and universitities closer to home. Students also have the opportunity to cross-register in weekday classes, thereby shortening their time spend at the Institute. Simmons Institute remains one of the very few programs in the United States today that requires a dress code. The attitude of being and acting professional will continue to be an important factor. Pride in personal appearance is not a given, but becomes a way of life. Faculty selection is based upon educational experience, background and accomplishments. You will find the faculty most helpful in meeting your educational goals. Simmons has earned the right to be proud of its many accomplishments during the 20th Century; but more importantly, Simmons is extremely proud of its graduates who have made many sacrifices and contributions toward the betterment of funeral service as we know it today. Discover Syracuse and its surrounding area located in the "heart" of Central New York, offering the natural beauty of our four seasons and attractions for all interests. You are invited to make arrangement with the Institute for a personal interview after you have had the opportunity to review our academic catalog. We look forward to addressing your questions while exploring your future in funeral service. Yours Truly, Maurice C. Wightman |
