BY-LAWS OF THE ORGANIZATION
I. The members of this organization are:
a. Expected to serve on committees
b. Expected to attend meetings regularly
c. Expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner
d. Expected to maintain a good academic standing at Simmons Institute
e. Expected to take an active participation and interest in the organization.
II. The Executive Committee, which consists of the five officers, shall meet once a week to discuss previous meeting actions and to plan for the upcoming meeting.
III. Offices of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant at Arms will be elected at the end of each semester. Officers must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above. They will assume office and plan activities of the upcoming semester.
a. President
1. To preside over all regular meetings
2. To chair the Executive Committee
3. To assume the responsibility for all organization business and/or action
4. To review/update the by-laws with the Executive Committee.
b. Vice President
1. To serve as Administration Aide to the President
2. To preside over meetings in the absence of the President
3. To serve on the Executive Committee
c. Secretary
1. To keep an accurate account of the minutes of each organization meeting and post such minutes after each meeting
2. To post notice of upcoming meeting in a timely manner
3. To handle all organization correspondence in an efficient manner
4. To serve on the Executive Committee
d. Treasurer
1. To gather all monies collected and deliver them to the Faculty Advisor
2. To give an account of the organization’s finances at the meeting
3. To serve on the Executive Committee
e. Sergeant at Arms
1. To encourage all members to participate in all activities
2. To serve on the Executive Committee
IV. The President, subject to a majority vote of the Executive Committee, will appoint committees.
V. All meetings will be conducted upon the basis of parliamentary procedure. An Institute Representative will be appointed and be present at all meetings.
VI. Membership dues are a one-time $25 lifetime membership paid in the student’s first semester.
VII. Alumni members will not be allowed to vote on the organization business or to hold elected office in Sigma Phi Sigma.
VIII. Impeachment of an officer of the organization, based upon failing to maintain expected professional, academic, and social values of the organization, or failure to perform the duties of the office in an acceptable manner will be enacted as follows:
A written statement of complaint is to be addressed to the Executive Committee and delivered via the Institute Representative. The President of the organization is then to order a special meeting. The Executive Committee will then vote to impeach an officer or make suggestions for corrective action to the Institute Representative. A full disclosure of the action will be reported at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
